This is a traditional bulb shovel straight from The Netherlands, world tulip-growing capital. It is a similar size to the Great Dixter short planting spade (an excellent tool that we also use a lot during bulb planting season) but this shovel is built specifically for planting single large bulbs or a few small bulbs in one hole.
Ideal for a scattered, naturalistic planting throughout your borders, this shovel is narrow and straight so that you are digging out only what you absolutely need to get the bulbs in the ground.
The short handle is designed to be used from a kneeling position so that you don't have to go up and down constantly when planting large quantities of bulbs with a normal-sized spade. You know the drill - dig the hole, put down your spade, place the bulbs, fill the hole, stand back up, pick up your spade, dig another hole.
Once you're down on the ground, digging is faster and more efficient, without the wrist fatigue you would get from using a hori hori or a trowel.
A great specialty tool for gardeners that do a lot of bulb planting for multiple clients during the autumn, or for large bulb planting projects.
