Have you heard the old gardener’s adage? One year’s seeding equals ten years’ weeding! It's so important to get those weeds before they go to seed. If you don't, the problem just compounds year on year.
A hoe is used primarily to scuffle across the surface of the soil to cut off small annual weeds before they go to seed and spread around the garden.
We regularly use hoes for annual weeds, particularly in spring when new growth is coming on fast - its a real time saver to get them under control before they become a much bigger problem. Where they have been let go, frequent hoeing is a great way to regain the upper hand.
The push hoe is an extremely effective weeding tool. The large rectangular blade is sharp on all four sides, allowing you to cut on the push stroke as well as the pull stroke. It is well-suited to the vegetable garden where the sharp edges of the blade are ideal for working on hard ground. Use the pointed corners to easily draw out furrows and drills for planting seeds; it can also be used to turn soil.
For all you tall folks, the Sneeboer push hoes have the longest handles - which means you won’t have to bend over so much!
All Sneeboer long-handled tools are finished with a round ball at the end of the handle. This serves as a grip and, when scuffling, provides a physical reminder that your hand is at the end of the handle. So smart! The longer-than-usual handles mean that you can work in a more upright position, minimizing backache. An especially great feature for tall folks.
