A hoe is used primarily to scuffle across the surface of the soil to cut off small annual weeds and self-sowers before they go to seed and spread around the garden. Have you heard the old gardener’s adage? One year’s seeding = ten years’ weeding!
We regularly use hoes for annual weeds, particularly in spring when new growth is coming on fast - its a real time saver to get them under control before they become a much bigger problem. Where they have been let go, frequent hoeing is a great way to regain the upper hand.
