I’ve used a hori hori as my main weeding tool for a long time so I never really thought I needed a hand fork. Until I went to England and worked at Great Dixter.

Lots of gardeners there use them as a weeding tool of choice, but I was most impressed with they way they used them to divide perennials for nursery stock.

Using two forks back-to-back to lever apart root clumps is a speedy and less damaging way to divide plants. I was a bit skeptical until I tried it, because who ever has two forks in their kit? But it worked like a charm! I now have two hand forks on my potting bench and bring them along to job sites when I know we have a lot of dividing to do.

The stainless steel tines of the Sneeboer hand fork are strong enough to dig and cultivate soils of all types and conditions. It is important to choose a fork that is strongly made because the tines of poorly-made forks can bend with use, especially if you have heavy clay or compacted soils.
