The Japanese name for this tool is hakaribasami, which means leaf cutting scissors, and it's crucial not to cut old, hard growth, just soft green stuff. Designed to be used single-handedly, leaving your other hand free, the long blades and spring action make clipping a breeze. Excellent for finessing your topiary and precision cutting at awkward angles in tight spaces.
The locking mechanism (the clasp at the bottom of the handles) is very deliberate and easy to use, even with gloves on. The lock never accidentally engages. The red and yellow handles are easy to find if you put them down in the garden. But don't! You'll want to keep this beautiful tool safe and sound in a Niwaki long holster.
The steel sharpens easily but is brittle and can be damaged through misuse; they are not meant for heavy hacking, cutting wire or opening paint cans!
