This strong narrow rock spade has been specially designed for working in rocky soils. But it is also brilliant for planting into gaps in crowded, established borders in amongst other plants, where there's little room and you want to dig the narrowest hole possible. Its especially useful for interplanting bulbs and plant material grown in small pots - if you work in pairs, one can dig holes, the other can pop the bulbs/plants in!
Originally recommended to me by Lambert Vrijmoed from Free Spirit Nursery, it’s a favourite tool of his and now of mine!
