Very limited quantities available. Don't delay if you want them!

These are traditional A-Type style secateurs from Tobisho, hand-forged from exceptionally high quality Aogami #2 Hitachi Blue Paper Steel laminated to the handles. Blue steel in secateurs is unusual because blue steel is harder and more brittle than other steels - but it will take and hold an edge like nothing else.

The hard steel sharpens easily but that also means that they can be damaged more easily. I don't recommend them if you are looking for an all-rounder - they should not be used for heavy hacking, cutting wire or opening paint cans.

The locking mechanism on Japanese secateurs is the feature that sets them apart for me - the clasp at the bottom of the handles is very deliberate and easy to use, even with gloves on. The lock never accidentally engages, unlike Felcos, and you can lock them with one hand by pushing them against your hip. Brilliant!

The red and yellow handles are easy to find if you put them down in the garden. But don't! You'll want to keep this special tool safe and sound in your holster.

Tobisho pruning tools are the creme de la creme in the Japanese gardening world. They are made in a small family-run factory in Yamagata; production is limited and, because they are exceptionally well-made and such a pleasure to use, they are very difficult to get hold of! We have been able to get small shipments of these A-Type Secateurs, as well as SR-1 secateurs, Hiryu Secateurs (for fruit tree pruning in Japan) and Pro Snips

Check carefully when buying A-Types, as the authentic, Yamagata style uses a cast handle laminated to a finer quality steel blade, rather than the easier single piece method - you'll see a thin gold band between the two steels, which is the sign of authenticity.

Tobisho recommends sharpening with the Niwaki sharpening stonesTobisho snips and secateurs come with a spare spring.
