We regularly use hoes for annual weeds, particularly in spring when new growth is coming on fast - its a real time saver to get them under control before they become a much bigger problem. Where they have been let go, frequent hoeing is a great way to regain the upper hand.
This scuffle hoe is really similar to a long-time favourite called the Winged Weeder that my crew and I have used for years and years but is no longer in production. So I was very excited to find this version which may be even better than my original because it's got a longer (good for tall folks), stouter handle (so the handle doesn't bend under force) with a more robust attachment. Added bonus, the blade is manufactured from recycled agricultural disc blades.
A push hoe is an extremely effective weeding tool, sharp on all sides, allowing you to cut both on the push stroke and the pull stroke.
I like the size and shape of this blade - it gets you into tightly-planted areas and the triangular shape means that it's not as easy to accidentally cut into desirable neighbouring plants while you scuffle off weeds.
