More than a garden tool, this is a piece of modern garden history.
Dutch plantsman and designer Piet Oudolf transformed the way we think about gardens. As the leading figure behind the New Perennial Movement, his work shifted the focus from formal bedding displays to naturalistic plant communities that celebrate texture, structure, movement, and seasonality. To complement this approach to gardening, Piet partnered with Sneeboer Tools, to create a collection of heirloom-quality hand tools designed specifically for planting and tending richly layered perennial gardens. Every tool in the collection is hand-forged in the Netherlands by skilled craftspeople using Sneeboer's century-old techniques and premium stainless steel.
The collaboration includes Piet's signature Hand Spade, with its long, slender blade that slips effortlessly between established plants. It's similar in size to our best-selling Great Dixter short planting spade. The difference is in the shape and size of the head. This one has a larger, traditional spade shape that is great for digging, planting, transplanting, and is particularly great for dividing smaller clumps in situ. Because of the larger head, it will hold more soil than the Great Dixter short spade when you're digging planting holes.
The other tool collaboration is the Sneeboer Piet Oudolf Seed Box which brings together two of the most essential tools for thoughtful perennial gardening: a robust stainless steel transplanting trowel and a precision right-handed hand hoe with a 10 cm blade. Both tools are hand-forged by Sneeboer in the Netherlands and finished with smooth ash handles engraved with “Piet Oudolf Collection.” Housed in a beautifully crafted wooden seed box, the set is designed not only for daily use in the garden but also as a lasting place to store and organize your favourite seed packets season after season.
