Horsehair is great for cleaning and sweeping. The dense tuft made of horse’s tail does not create a static charge and the bristles adapt to any surface. Bürstenhaus Redecker has been making brushes by hand in Germany since 1935. Founder Friedrich Redecker learned the brushmaker’s trade after losing his sight as a child, eventually building his own small business serving local farmers and households. Three generations later, the family business is still going strong.

Today, Redecker combines traditional brushmaking with thoughtful design and an almost obsessive attention to materials. Natural woods, plant fibres, bristles and hair are chosen for their particular qualities, with synthetic materials used only where they genuinely make sense. The result is a wonderfully simple idea: make practical things beautifully, using good materials and proper craftsmanship.
