A simple, no-nonsense design forged in hard-wearing, easy to sharpen carbon steel, these ones come in the traditional Japanese style without vinyl sleeves. B-type refers to the angle of the cutting blade.
Currently, we only have the 180mm size, perfect for smaller hands but we hope to offer the larger 200mm size in the new year.
Pruning with a sharp tool that fits your hand well and is a comfortable weight will lessen repetitive strain for gardeners who use their secateurs frequently and/or for long periods of time.
The locking mechanism (the clasp at the bottom of the handles) is very deliberate and easy to use, even with gloves on. The lock never accidentally engages.
Tobisho recommends sharpening with the Niwaki sharpening stones. The high quality steel sharpens easily and holds an edge much longer than lower quality steel, but it is brittle and can be damaged through misuse. They are not meant to be used for heavy hacking, cutting wire or opening paint cans! Handle them with care, and clean and sharpen regularly and they should last you a lifetime!
